G arden Hall, is a musical/ sound artist moniker of Jer McCormick, who
is based in the Irish midlands.
Influences include the works of Steve Reich, John Cage, Cocteau Twins, Tim Hecker, Stars of the Lid, Windy and carl, other Kranky artists, Fennesz, Biosphere, and William Basinski, to name just a few.
Just like some of the aforementioned artists, Garden Hall is also influenced by the sounds we hear everyday, and the effect that different spaces we find ourselves in, can have on these sounds.
Garden Hall likes to incorporate sound textures in his work. The sources of the elements within these textures, are unlimited. Nothing is out of bounds, but there is a preference for sustained sounds, such as an engine idling, or a brick being dragged, or a combination of the two.
The resulting sounds, and drones, can be described as ambient, minimalist, and experimental, soundscapes. Melody is allowed to make an appearance, as are vocals. There are really no self imposed rules.
